Pool Maintenance Specialist – City of Winston‑Salem
Description General Definition of Work: Performs intermediate skilled trades work maintaining pools in swim centers, water play areas, splash pads, and ornamental water fountains, documenting water chemicals used and levels, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Pool Maintenance Coordinator. Qualifications Performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of the City's swimming pools and related facilities. Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of purchasing water test kits and ordering pool chemicals; thorough knowledge of the review of water test results; general knowledge of commercial pool maintenance and construction practices; general knowledge of ground maintenance and construction practices; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, supervisors, and the general public. High school diploma or GED and moderate experience working with plumbing, pumps, motors, and piping designs, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 100 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting and tasting or smelling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic). Special Requirements Valid driver's license upon hire. Possession or ability to obtain a valid Certified Pool Operator certification from the National Swimming Pool Foundation within six months of employment is required. Pool operation training
