Structural Bridge Engineer – Subject Matter Expert Location: Kernersville, North Carolina.
Annual Compensation:
$128,000 – $185,000 (based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards).
Essential Functions
Perform engineering design tasks for bridge projects from preliminary to final design.
Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages.
Establish working relationships with client technical staff and project managers, especially with DOT and local governments.
Provide engineering design services for traditional design‑bid‑build and design‑build bridge projects.
Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans.
Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers.
Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost, and scheduling performance.
Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement corrective action recommendations.
Complete tasks within schedule and budget as part of multidisciplinary teams.
Serve in leadership positions in transportation related organizations such as ASHE, ASCE, NCSEA, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis (required). M.S. degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
Qualifications
10+ years of bridge/culvert design experience (required).
DOT bridge design experience and thorough understanding of DOT guidelines, procedures, and plan preparation (ODOT, NCDOT, or MaineDOT preferred).
Relationships with DOTs and municipalities preferred.
Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and Manual for Bridge Evaluation.
