Mobile Diesel Technician Level II The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II performs licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. This technician works independently in a mobile/field environment, increasingly handling advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, high performance metrics, and continuous skill development.
Duties
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments.
Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and confirm proper operation.
Identify problems, determine their root causes, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliations.
Maintain and operate the service vehicle, including safety checks and pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
Listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time efficiently.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work on Repair Orders (RO) via the company's proprietary TRAIT application and upload photos and parts records.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other requisite documentation promptly.
Work independently, managing the daily schedule.
Maintain high productivity and meet Standard Repair Times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
Communicate with management to obtain repair estimate approvals, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss findings.
Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related experience (or equivalent education/experience combinations).
Must possess and supply the necessary hand tools to perform job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background check and DOT physical or submit a valid DOT medical card with >4 months remaining.
Be at least 21 years old, hold a valid state driver’s license, and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
