Summary Statement A class incumbent performs at the full-performance level carrying out routine and preventative maintenance on physical plants; bridges and equipment; working on on-going and short term projects to help ensure efficient operations of physical plant facilities; bridges and/or upkeep and restoration of historical buildings. This position must be available to work overtime as needed, and during storm events and other emergency events on short notice and in some cases no advance notice. Plus Hazard pay.
Essential Functions
Renovates equipment, builds partitions, furniture and structures to extend usage and/or meet specific needs.
Performs maintenance in one or more trade fields including plumbing, carpentry, painting and assists in complex or large-scale projects.
Inspects facilities, makes basic repairs to systems, structures and equipment and is engaged in preventative maintenance program.
Inspects, maintains and repairs HVAC operation, water supply, pumps, wells, sanitary systems, compressors, treatment and disposal plants.
May perform maintenance and preventative maintenance of vehicles and operate heavy equipment.
Maintains records of materials, jobs, and other pertinent information.
May perform highway lighting or drawbridge maintenance.
Job Requirements Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Six months experience in operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, hand and power tools used in trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
Six months experience in performing work in a variety of trades fields such as plumbing, carpentry, painting or HVAC.
Knowledge of interpreting blueprints, schematics or technical drawings.
Knowledge of record keeping.
Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
Conditions of Hire
Pre-employment Drug Testing: Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.
Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.
As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). As a condition of hire you must possess a valid CDL Class A or B drivers license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving) OR obtain one during the initial 90‑day probationary period.
All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment. Sessions are held at designated locations in Kent or New Castle County.
