Program and Role Summary Wayfinder’s

Family Finding

program searches exhaustively for relatives or people close to children in foster care so they can establish supportive connections. Family finding specialists contact relatives to see if they are interested in phone calls or visits with children in care. Family may not know how to search for the child or even that the child is in foster care. Our specialists coordinate contacts for children and these relatives to build trust and connections so the youth will have a network of caring adults to rely on when they leave foster care.

The primary focus on the

Family Finder I

is to provide a comprehensive, intensive relative search and engagement services for foster children.

Primary Responsibilities

Utilize the Family Search and Engagement model and other CCSWW tools when searching for prospective kin‑caregivers and missing kin to solicit their interest and commitment to be a part of the child’s life.

Ensure families are assessed for suitability prior to placement.

Conduct, analyze and utilize assessments for case planning, reunification and/or placement purposes.

Facilitate family team meetings to support placement planning.

Maintain engagement with all family members who committed to be a part of the child’s life.

Other duties as outlined in the position description.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field, required.

2+ years of experience in child welfare with an emphasis in working with children in foster care.

Experience in the dynamics of kinship families and special needs children.

Valid California Driver’s License with a minimum of three (3) years of good driving history and must be approved by the agency’s insurance carrier to drive agency vehicles.
