Job Summary Working with the service manager, responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the Service department. Oversees the work of the mechanics and is able to make proper diagnoses of all components and recommended repairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Diagnostic ability of all components of the truck.
Help write up repair orders and communicate with drivers and owners to determine problems and solutions.
Schedule and assign jobs and work areas to employees according to their skills and knowledge to eliminate time lost between jobs.
Inspect and advise mechanics on work as it progresses.
Track each customer job and advise the customer on time of completion, cost of repairs, and additional repairs.
Road‑test and dyno test trucks to diagnose problems and confirm repairs are complete.
Maintain clean and orderly buildings, grounds, and work areas. Keep company tools and equipment properly maintained.
Help determine parts to be replaced and coordinate with the Parts Department to ensure parts availability.
Assist with completing repair orders, verifying correct billing of parts, and ensuring all needed lines are added to the ticket. Verify repairs are correctly coded.
Be familiar with warranties of all truck parts and determine if a repair is warrantable.
Arrive at least thirty minutes before mechanics’ shift to analyze the work schedule.
Be willing to work additional hours as workload and business require and perform other duties or functions as directed by management.
Help ensure safe working conditions for all employees.
Educational Requirements Minimum high school diploma required.
Work Experience Minimum four years as a mechanic and at least two years as a shop foreman or lead mechanic.
Special Skills Must possess good interpersonal skills and be able to interact well with customers, vendors, and co‑workers in a positive and constructive manner. Must also hold and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Physical Demands Involves essential ability to climb around, on, and under trucks to inspect and diagnose problems. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Must lift 50 pounds to the waist and 25 pounds to the shoulder.
