Senior Data Center Construction Project Manager
Location: Phoenix, AZ – Travel Required (up to 20%+)
Contract: 6-12 Month Initial Contract (potential FTE conversion)
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Center Construction Project Manager to join a high-performing team responsible for delivering cutting-edge data center facilities. The role focuses on managing the construction of base building infrastructure, MEP systems, and high-density tenant fit-outs. You will lead projects from design through construction and commissioning, ensuring the highest quality standards, schedule adherence, and cost efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity to work on large-scale, technically complex data center projects with a collaborative team of engineering and construction professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the construction of data center facilities, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery.
Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, coordinating with contractors, colocation providers, and internal teams.
Analyze projects independently to identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and communicate potential impacts to leadership.
Coordinate tenant fit-out projects throughout design, construction, and commissioning phases.
Implement quality assurance and control processes to meet design specifications and industry standards.
Collaborate closely with design teams to ensure construction aligns with approved plans.
Serve as the primary point of contact for external partners, facilitating clear and effective communication.
Evaluate and provide input for continuous improvement of construction processes and partner performance.
Conduct regular on-site project visits to monitor progress, coordination, and quality.
Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
Required Skills & Expertise
Extensive knowledge of data center construction, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, controls, and plumbing systems.
Proven experience managing startup and commissioning phases of large-scale data center projects.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in complex construction environments.
Expertise in strategic planning and program-level requirements for construction projects.
Deep understanding of data center design, operational requirements, and sustainability best practices.
Leadership experience managing teams of engineers, project managers, and construction professionals.
Proficiency in budget creation, management, and optimization.
Experience with risk management and mitigation strategies.
Vendor and contractor selection, negotiation, and management experience.
In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, codes, and industry standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction project management, specifically in data center or colocation infrastructure.
Demonstrated success managing large-scale construction projects from inception to completion.
Strong understanding of construction processes, quality control, and design coordination.
Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Must be able to travel as required (25%+ at times).
