Description Installs, operates, maintains, repairs, lubricates, and troubleshoots complex processing and high‑speed packaging machinery and other equipment in the facility such as gear boxes, variable speed drives, pumps and compressors, dust‑collecting equipment, code daters, check weighers, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Installs, operates, maintains, repairs, lubricates, and troubleshoots complex processing and high‑speed packaging machinery and other equipment in the facility such as gear boxes, variable speed drives, pumps and compressors, dust‑collecting equipment, code daters, check weighers, etc.

Performs predictive and preventative maintenance activities as outlined in the CMMS system.

Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots all types of A/C and D/C electrical equipment.

Fabricates components using standard shop equipment including a lathe, mill, drill press, brake, shear, band saw, and various welding equipment.

Operates production equipment as part of troubleshooting, and validates completed maintenance activity.

Assists engineering in installation of new equipment using drawings, verbal instructions, and/or sketches.

Works with technical support, the operations group, and peer mechanics to resolve problematic machine or personnel issues.

Helps maintain spare parts inventory for the plant by checking out parts from the parts room, using parts ordering procedures, and restocking inventory.

Maintains shop areas and parts room so they are clean and orderly.

Actively participates in root cause analysis and other plant continuous improvement initiatives and recommends and implements continuous improvement ideas.

Occasionally performs work in other areas such as building maintenance.

Complies with safety and cGMP requirements and follows all safety procedures and wears all personal protective equipment as directed by company safety policy.

Safety Responsibility Statement Supports a culture of safe production and exhibits safe work practices. Actively participates in the safety program by engaging in safety activities. Effectively provides and accepts constructive peer‑to‑peer feedback on safety performance. Adheres to policies, procedures, SOPs, safe work practices, and safety policies and procedures. Reports all workplace incidents to supervisor immediately. Communicates concerns to supervisor, reports hazards, and provides input on prevention. Properly uses, wears, and stores personal protective equipment when required. Participates on safety teams and/or completes safety‑related activities as part of regular job responsibilities.

Qualifications Education and/or Experience

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school plus a minimum of two years of related experience OR a minimum of five years related experience.

Comprehensive knowledge of machine troubleshooting, electrical, mechanical, fabrication, pneumatics, hydraulics, OSHA standards, cGMPs, lock‑out/tag‑out is required.

Food or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.

Performance Ability Demonstrated strong working knowledge and ability to repair packaging and processing production equipment within one year from the date of employment. Solid knowledge of machine capabilities and manufacturing processes and the ability to troubleshoot. Ability to train and mentor other employees (including lesser‑skilled maintenance mechanics). Demonstrated ability to consistently meet quality, safety and efficiency goals. Excellent problem‑solving, organizational and planning skills; ability to prioritize and calmly handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment; strong sense of urgency; independent thinker with the ability to make sound decisions; initiative to complete tasks on time with minimal supervision; and flexibility to change tasks frequently and work in different work centers as business needs require. Strong teamwork and communication skills; excellent interpersonal and listening skills; strong attention to detail; high quality of work. Consistently follows all company policies and procedures, including all safety policies and procedures.

Language Skills Ability to read, interpret and write routine reports, correspondence, and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, addition, subtraction, multiplication, decimals, and measurements.

Reasoning Ability Excellent problem‑solving skills required.

Other Skills and Abilities

Basic computer skills required.

Demonstrate an understanding of the company priorities and core values and daily activities must support them.

Read and understand electrical and mechanical blueprints, use simple shop math, and possess knowledge of company, local, state, and federal electrical codes.

Understand the theory of operation of both processing and high‑speed packaging equipment.

Familiar with PLC, solid‑state, and servo control.

Knowledge of electrical test equipment such as digital multimeter, amp probe, megger, etc.

Ability to work other shifts, weekends, and travel to other facilities.

Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to stand and move throughout the facility; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, including overhead reaching and on a ladder; ascend and/or descend stairs; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift, move, slide, raise and/or place items including: step on and off ladders and equipment at 24 inches; grasp 50 lbs. of force; push and pull 42 lbs. of force at 36 inches; lift up to 60 lbs. from floor to waist; lift up to 60 lbs. from 31 inches, carry for 5 feet and return to 31 inch surface.

Work Environment The work environment characteristics include exposure to moving mechanical parts, herbal aromas, dust, airborne particles, ingredients, and packaging. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to fumes, cold, and heat. Noise level usually moderately loud; hearing protection may be required. Employee required to travel to other facilities.
