Purpose of the Position Provide quick‑response manufacturing support triggered by Operations feedback and product quality data. The overall mission of a MET technician is to optimize safety, product selection, and equipment utilization in the manufacturing of optical fiber, and to identify and support process improvements.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
Help the department achieve safety and lean goals.
Serve as the second point of contact for second‑ and third‑level troubleshooting of production equipment issues.
Monitor area performance, identify equipment/process issues, and follow issues to closure.
Manage multiple troubleshooting issues, prioritizing against plant and department priorities.
Receive training from engineering on new processes/equipment and procedural changes.
Receive hazardous‑material training for spill‑team support and other production activities involving controlled chemicals.
Work with operators, support technicians, engineers, and trades to coordinate startup, repair, troubleshooting, and process changes.
Oversee and direct trades on repairs as necessary.
Support preventive maintenance efforts on equipment.
Develop, document, and deliver training packages for new or modified equipment.
Assist engineers in the design, troubleshooting, documentation, and implementation of new or modified production equipment.
Direct maintenance personnel in construction, testing, installation, and debugging of equipment.
Education & Experience
Associate’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or controls technology preferred.
High school diploma with 10+ years manufacturing experience acceptable.
Demonstrated skills in troubleshooting and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings.
Computer literate; comfortable using Microsoft Windows to locate files, edit, save, transfer, etc.
Required Skills
Sound decision‑making and prioritization skills.
Excellent communication with all levels of the plant organization.
Strong people skills; ability to handle multiple tasks as necessary.
Good process and equipment troubleshooting skills.
Mechanically and electrically inclined (aptitude for both).
Good written and verbal communication skills (detail oriented).
Ability to train effectively.
PC proficient (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Passdown).
Controlled response in emergency situations.
Willing to act as a motivator and role model.
Desired Skills
Capable of using diagnostic equipment.
PC – Data analysis (PI, etc.).
Soft Skills
Works well in a team environment; a self‑starter and results‑oriented.
Acts and makes decisions in the best interest of the team.
Complies with all plant policies and procedures.
Works well with other disciplines (IT, mechanical, and process engineering) to fully understand manufacturing system functionality and design requirements.
Travel Requirements National/International; 0‑100% (5%).
Hours of Work Mon – Fri, 8 hrs/day (Periodic OT/Weekend work will be required). On‑call support every 6‑8 weeks.
Salary & Benefits The range for this position is $57,899.00 – $79,612.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
