Job Posting: Structure Representative / Assistant Structure Representative Department of Transportation JC-495670 Position: Transportation Engineer (Civil) — entry to journeyman level on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures and appurtenances. Location: Cameron Park, El Dorado County. Salary: $6,488.00 - $12,152.00 per Month New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Responsibilities The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Structure Construction (SC), is recruiting to fill a Transportation Engineer Civil (TEC) position. Under the direction of a Senior Bridge Engineer (Supervisor) in Structure Construction (SC), the Transportation Engineer (Civil) classification is the entry, working and journeyman level of professional engineering work in Caltrans. The incumbent performs a wide variety of professional engineering work in either an office or field setting; as incumbents progress in experience they will be assigned more difficult work. This work is performed on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures and appurtenances. The incumbent works as a field engineer to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with the contract documents (Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contract plans and Special Provisions). May act as an Assistant Structure Representative or Assistant Resident Engineer/Resident Engineer on construction projects.
Minimum Qualifications and Exam Guidance Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Contact the exam unit at askexams@dot.ca.gov for additional information. For education requirements, contact the Human Resources Contact prior to taking the online Training and Experience Evaluation. For ABET accreditation see Find Programs | ABET. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam. Required Documents and Special Requirements
Possession of a valid Driver's License is required when operating a state or personal vehicle on official business. Complete question #8 within the STD.678 Employment Application form.
Resume is required. Failure to include resume will result in disqualification from employment consideration.
Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required.
The SOQ should address:
Describe the focus of your civil engineering coursework and/or work and personal experience as it relates to the Duty Statement.
Describe your proficiency with engineering technology applications related to civil engineering coursework or work experience.
