About the Job The Department of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities invites applications for a term‑contract, non‑tenure track Assistant Professor position.

The position is a 12‑month, annually‑renewable, 100% full‑time appointment beginning in the summer or fall term of 2026 (June 1, 2026 or later).

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field and a strong preference for candidates with experience in the administration of large general chemistry laboratory courses (approximately 5,000 students per year).

The role requires a commitment to undergraduate chemistry education, the development of innovative, evidence‑based curricular materials, and instructional initiatives.

The candidate will serve as director and instructor of record for the general chemistry laboratories (CHEM 1017, 1065, 1066), perform departmental service roles, and pursue chemical education or pedagogical research in consultation with department leadership.

Inclusive pedagogy and sustainable chemistry principles are encouraged.

Job Duties Teaching (70‑85%) : Normal teaching load includes CHEM 1017, 1065, and 1066 each semester, fall, spring, and summer.

Responsibilities include developing and teaching courses, coordinating content with colleagues, creating evidence‑based curriculum and laboratory manuals, supervising and mentoring large numbers of teaching assistants, and aligning laboratory courses with lecture courses in coordination with the faculty coordinator of CHEM 1001, 1061, and 1062.

Administrative coordination across multi‑section courses is part of the teaching effort.

Service and Research (15‑30%) : Serve on departmental and university governance committees, doctoral candidacy exams, and M.S. degree committees.

Contribute to chemical education or pedagogical research as desired and in consultation with the department head.

Promotional Consideration Collegiate policy on promotion of term faculty applies.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. required in Chemistry or related field.

Experience teaching or administering large laboratory courses at the post‑secondary level.

Experience supervising and mentoring student Teaching Assistants.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with teaching software (Canvas, Lab Archives, Gradescope).

Experience with hybrid teaching modes and technology.

Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.

Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to collaborate and communicate with support staff.

Appointees must have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree by the date of appointment, with a preferred start date for the summer 2026 or fall 2026 academic term.
