Job Title
Family Nurse – Band 7 – Permanent – 37 hrs – Location: ‘SPACE’ Unit 1-4, 11 Harewood Road, Edinburgh, EH16 4NT
Overview In line with the Scottish Government manifesto to roll out the Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) across Scotland, NHS Lothian is delivering an ongoing service to all mothers eligible for the programme. To support this initiative NHS Lothian is recruiting replacement members of staff to join the FNP team.
Responsibilities
Be registered with the NMC on sub‑part 1 or midwifery part of the register and hold a relevant degree.
Have either Masters level education or demonstrate clinical practice and characteristics at Masters level.
Lead and manage up to 25 pregnant first‑time young mothers and their babies up to two years of age, working to the FNP model.
Apply the principles of Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) in clinical practice and maintain robust understanding of national and local policies relating to child protection and the wellbeing of children and young people.
Engage children, young people and families in communities encountering a range of inequalities.
Attend mandatory training events held across the country, including residential training, and a range of 1‑2 day training events throughout 2026/2027.
Qualifications
Registered with the NMC on sub‑part 1 or midwifery part of the register.
Degree level education in a relevant subject.
Masters level education or demonstrated Masters‑level clinical practice.
Evidence of recognised nursing leadership skills.
Willingness to work innovatively and flexibly, including outside core hours.
Understanding of GIRFEC, child protection, and local policies related to child and young people’s wellbeing.
Commitment to the spirit and ethos of FNP and its strengths‑based approach.
Training Schedule (2026)
23 Feb – 6 Mar – 10 days non‑residential (base)
9 – 13 Mar – 5 days / 4 nights residential – venue to be confirmed
5 May – 1 day non‑residential – venue to be confirmed
2 – 3 Jun – 2 days / 1 night residential – venue to be confirmed
25 Aug – 1 day non‑residential – venue to be confirmed
27 – 29 Oct – 3 days / 2 nights residential – venue to be confirmed
25 – 26 Nov – 2 days / 1 night residential – venue to be confirmed
Additional training events will be confirmed in due course.
