Summary The Manager of Technical Pre‑Sales Support will serve as a key technical interface between Qcells’ commercial organization and its utility‑scale customers across solar PV and energy storage segments. This role translates complex customer requirements into technically viable and commercially optimized solutions, supporting the pursuit of new EPC and equipment‑only opportunities. The ideal candidate combines deep technical knowledge in PV and energy storage design with strong communication and collaboration skills, actively contributing to project qualification, solution development, and proposal generation throughout the pre‑sales lifecycle. The position reports to the Chief Commercial Officer (or a designated manager) and is Hybrid‑based in Houston, TX with working hours Monday through Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm or 9:00 am–6:00 pm local time. Up to 30% travel may be required.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
Serve as the technical subject matter expert for customer‑facing sales support, focusing primarily on utility‑scale solar tracker opportunities.
Develop technical proposals including tracker configurations (e.g., Single‑Axis, Horizontal), row layouts, system drive mechanisms, and wind/terrain compliance analyses for solar projects.
Support the preparation of technical responses to RFPs, RFIs, and due diligence requests, specifically addressing tracker bankability, structural specifications, and control systems (e.g., TrueCapture, Backtracking), in collaboration with sales and other internal teams.
Contribute to the development of energy yield simulations and performance analyses in PVSyst/Helioscope, focusing on the tracker's impact on project generation and Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE).
Collaborate with tracker product and engineering teams to provide input on customer needs and ensure alignment between mechanical/structural solutions and project requirements.
Analyze customer site conditions (e.g., topography, soil, wind zone) and project specifications to inform optimal tracker selection and foundation architecture.
Conduct technical presentations and participate in customer meetings to effectively communicate Qcells' tracker technology, advantages, and O&M features.
Monitor relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., ASCE 7, structural standards, motor certifications) impacting tracker design and installation.
Assist with the hand‑off process to project execution teams, ensuring continuity of tracker design details and site‑specific installation requirements.
Participate in internal initiatives to improve technical sales processes and tools.
Regular attendance, in accordance with company’s attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position.
Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned by Management.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (Master’s degree is a plus).
Minimum 5 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, with at least 3 years focused on solar tracker design, application engineering, or technical sales support.
Solid understanding of solar tracker components (e.g., motors, slew drives, bearings, foundations) and control systems.
Familiarity with structural analysis principles and wind‑loading requirements as they apply to large‑scale solar trackers.
Ability to interpret customer specifications, interconnection requirements, and performance guarantees to support the creation of technical designs.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex technical information to various audiences.
A collaborative and detail‑oriented mindset with a focus on delivering effective solutions.
Experience working in a cross‑functional environment, interacting with sales, engineering, and construction teams.
Knowledge of key industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, UL, NFPA) relevant to solar and BESS projects.
