Base pay range $126,921.60/yr - $158,662.40/yr

Responsibilities

Configure, maintain, and process negotiated compensation and classification changes such as cost‑of‑living adjustments, equity increases, and legislative updates within Workday.

Administer and update job profiles, compensation plans, and related structures, supporting the Classification and Compensation program.

Provide HCM support to departments during major workforce activities such as reorganizations, seasonal staffing, and fiscal year transitions.

Coordinate regression testing and implement changes associated with bi‑annual Workday updates in assigned functional areas.

Prepare and distribute procedures, communications, and reports to support HR programs, system enhancements, and compliance initiatives.

Configure, maintain, and process negotiated compensation and classification changes such as cost‑of‑living adjustments, equity salary updates, and other compensation adjustments.

Create and maintain compensation grades, steps, and allowance plans and administer job profiles and position management to support classification and compensation functions.

Configure and maintain custom objects and request frameworks for HR programs within HCM (e.g., Hiring Incentive Program, Employee Referral Program, Tuition Assistance, Admin/Vacation Cash Out, Fitness Area and Equipment Usage Waiver).

Draft and distribute user communications, training materials, and procedural updates to support new functionality or system changes within HCM.

Maintain Help Text, Quicktips, videos, pictures, and announcements within HCM.

Support and enhance Talent optimization within Workday ensuring alignment with performance and development processes and future modules such as Learning, Peakon, Journeys, and Help for a cohesive employee experience.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; typically three years of responsible experience in a position that would provide knowledge of department‑specific programs, processes, and/or operations.

Knowledge

Principles, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and applicable state and federal laws pertinent to assigned operational and/or program area.

Principles and practices used in the analysis and development of procedures and information systems associated with assigned operational and/or program area.

HRIS concepts, data processing, and workflow design.

Methods for planning, organization, and prioritizing multiple duties to ensure the ability to meet deadlines.

Skills and Abilities

Provide analytical and technical support to users of Workday, translating business needs into functional requirements and finding solutions for pain‑points.

Evaluate, test, and implement system enhancements to improve efficiency and user experience.

Maintain strong attention to detail when performing mass updates in Workday that impact job structures, compensation, and employee records.

Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure consistency and alignment across all Workday HCM areas, guiding stakeholders to maintain cohesive processes and configurations.

Develop and deliver clear training materials, user guides, and communications to support process or system changes.

Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks while meeting critical deadlines.

Communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical staff and maintain cooperative working relationships.

NOTE : The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra‑help, limited term, unclassified, and regular classified vacancies.

Open and Promotional. Anyone may apply. Current County of San Mateo employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in classified regular, probationary, extra‑help, or limited‑term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on the examination.

Application screening

(weight: pass/fail) based on the candidates' applications and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%) which may include the evaluation of a brief writing exercise given immediately preceding the interview. Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California and applicants must participate at their own expense. Interviews may be conducted virtually using MS Teams.
