The Director of Distribution manages operations across post‑production, delivery, acquisitions and marketing for the distribution slate of Sumerian Pictures films.

Sumerian Entertainment is an artists‑led independent creative studio celebrating 19 years of making music as Sumerian Records, more recently expanding into film, published media, and graphic novels under the banners of Sumerian Pictures and Sumerian Comics. Founded by Ash Avildsen, Sumerian Records has earned Grammy nominations and top charting hits. Musicians on the Sumerian label include Bad Omens, Poppy, Palaye Royale, Des Rocs, Bones UK, and The Smashing Pumpkins. Sumerian Pictures will theatrically release the upcoming romantic comedy, MILE END KICKS, directed by Chandler Levack and starring Barbie Ferreira. Sumerian Pictures recent theatrical releases include QUEEN OF THE RING, starring Emily Bett Rickards, Josh Lucas, and Walton Goggins; DIVINITY, which premiered at Sundance and was executive produced by Steven Soderbergh; and TURNSTILE: NEVER ENOUGH, which premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival. In addition to founding Sumerian, Avildsen is a filmmaker, most recently writing, directing, and producing QUEEN OF THE RING, as well as the upcoming comedy, MY NEW FRIEND JIM, starring Rob Lowe and Keith David.

Responsibilities

Manage operations across post‑production, delivery, acquisitions and marketing for slate of Sumerian Pictures films

Distribution

Delivery: manage workflow of film distribution delivery through outside partners

Asset management: responsible for delivery and post‑production process with internal and external partners

Support marketing campaign efforts and in‑house editors by coordinating materials for promo creation and social media

Theatrical distribution: coordinate theatrical distribution plans

Ancillary distribution: maintain and help manage calendars for distribution in all media

Acquisitions

Screen and review projects considered for distribution

Maintain tracking database for available film projects

Create regular reports of active projects under consideration

Develop and maintain relationships with agents, producers and filmmakers

Travel as needed to key film festivals to screen films and cover for acquisitions

Requirements

Working familiarity with technical aspects of film delivery process

5+ years experience working in independent film distribution and asset management

Working knowledge of independent film distribution landscape, key players and film markets

Organized and able to work on multiple projects with internal and outside parties

Strong team building and communication skills
