Job Summary Performs accounting duties of low to medium complexity in a department or the City Controller’s Office to effectively realize the department’s accounting goals.
Essential Functions
Executes various aspects of departmental accounting; performs moderately complex account reconciliation, grant fund reimbursement, preparation of payment histories, and development of reports for periodic review by upper management; ensures all financial and accounting policies and standards are met.
Supervises, oversees, and monitors cash deposits, receivables, payables, revenue, or general ledger activities to ensure accuracy and compliance with state tax code, departmental internal controls, and city policies and procedures.
Conducts, performs, and applies research to resolve reconciliation problems and accounting discrepancies; performs grant administration and other tasks for major City programs; regularly responds to requests from managers and other individuals on various fund statistics.
Responds to information requests including compiling data, analyzing results, and summarizing findings; makes recommendations for improving the accounting system.
Assists other departments with routine accounting system problems or inquiries to implement a uniform procedure for processing payment vouchers.
Monitors all procurement processes for the division and ensures purchasing is done in the most cost‑effective manner; prepares a request for supplies and services to obtain purchase orders; drafts vendor evaluations monthly to ensure vendor compliance with city policies and procedures.
Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of accounting.
Knowledge of basic office machines and computerized accounting systems.
Knowledge of city administrative directives related to accounting procedures and the accounting system.
Ability to assign, lead, and assist accounting staff and related personnel actions.
Ability to make mathematical calculations, prepare financial reports, and maintain financial records.
Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Minimum Qualifications Education
Associate degree in Accounting or Finance.
Experience
Two (2) years of accounting or financial transaction experience.
Equivalencies
High school diploma/GED plus four (4) years of general accounting experience will qualify.
Associate degree (or higher) in a non‑specified field plus three (3) years of general accounting experience will qualify.
Bachelor's degree or higher in a specified field will qualify.
Current Certified Accounting Certification will meet the education and experience requirements.
Salary Range $25.12 - $28.85
