Job Summary
MedStar Health is looking for a Patient Care Technician Emergency Department (PCTED) to join our team at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.
Primary Duties
Provides direct patient care activities under the supervision of nursing or medical staff, assisting patients with activities of daily living, specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV catheter insertion, EKGs, and documentation in the health record.
Meets vital signs and other patient data, performs treatments such as Foley and nasogastric tube insertion, wound care, turning, and postmortem care, maintains drainage tubes, oxygen equipment, and applies restraints as needed.
Ensures patient comfort, privacy, and dignity, performs observation duties, assists providers during examinations, reports changes in patient condition, and participates in hand‑off procedures and CPR when indicated.
Provides patient/family education, answers questions, escorts patients during discharges, transfers, or appointments, and completes errands such as specimen deliveries.
Maintains cleanliness and safety of patient rooms and support areas, manages linens, supplies, and waste, and assists environmental services as needed.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program.
1–2 years’ experience as a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
Boards: CNA – Certified Nursing Assistant in Maryland.
BLS (Basic Life Support).
Experience as a care technician, emergency medical technician, or paramedic preferred.
General health‑care experience in acute care, long‑term care, or other settings preferred.
Student nurse in junior or senior year (preferred).
CPT (Certified Phlebotomy Technician) preferred.
This position has a hiring range of USD $19.17 - $33.08 /Hr.
