Food Safety and Quality Assurance Technician - 2nd Shift
Summary:
Perform duties to assure the ingredients, finished product and the product packaging comply with Food Safety and Food Quality requirements and to insure the product handlers follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for all levels of quality control/quality assurance
Works closely with the production and shipping departments to improve processes
Follow Training processes: GMPS, SSOP, Food Safety, Ammonia Properties and uses, Back Safety, Blood-borne Pathogens, Emergency Preparedness, Ergonomics, Hearing Protection, Introduction to Hazardous Communication and Walking and Working Surfaces
Identifies, develops and secures alternative raw materials
Responsible for meeting all critical control points: HACCP paperwork
Works alongside with production, USDA, Sanitation, and Maintenance to find and correct deficiencies
Schedules for sensory, samples and other daily tasks
Works on the floor to assist production supervisors in maintaining a department that follows GMPs and HACCP procedures
Responsible for RTE and raw department quality
Evaluates product weight, temperature, length, width and records on net weight log
Supervises production employees to ensure they are following company GMPs
Performs metal detector verification every two hours
Lab duties include sanitizing tools, knives and personal thermometers
Calibrates personal thermometers, scales, PH meters and oxygen analyzers
Quick swabs, brine samples, air samples, all plated and read
Tests raw and finished product fat and water samples
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in food safety, microbiology or other related field or two years related job experience and/or related job experience or training
Able to speak, read and write English fluently
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Proficiency with Microsoft Applications
Ability to work with small instruments and or equipment for measurements or readings
SQF Certified preferred
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and go up and down stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and climb ladders. Must be able to work 6 days a week 10 to 12 hours a day.
