HIGHWAY OPERATION TECHNICIAN SUPERVISOR
Location: 5133 Northc. Sign & Striping, Flagstaff, AZ 86004 (Address: 5701 E. Railhead – Location 2053)
Salary: $47,564 – $87,570 (Anticipated: $71,179.68, Grade 22)
Job Summary Manage unit assets, develop, implement and monitor an annual work program, ensure activities are within budget, compose strategic plans, supervise work crews and administrative staff, and maintain sufficient asset and material production to meet agency goals. Supervise unit fleet, uphold MUTCD and ADOT standards for statewide signing and markings, and ensure crew training and safety.
Job Duties
Plan and direct work for crews and vendors to maintain, install, or fabricate roadway signs, sign structures, components, and roadway markings.
Prepare, execute, and adjust the annual work program, monitoring quality, timeliness, and performance.
Utilize leadership skills to supervise scheduled and unscheduled work, ensuring crew and public safety.
Conduct coaching and annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with ADOT policies and procurement procedures.
Track unit budget to keep expenditures within guidelines and in compliance with procurement policies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of
Departmental mission, goals, and regulatory framework, including federal, state, and agency laws and policies.
Safety practices, OSHA requirements, and supervisory techniques.
Procurement policies, contract specifications, and administration.
MUTCD and departmental traffic control requirements.
Environmental regulations affecting cultural, biological resources, and waters of the U.S.
Skill In
Leadership and team management.
Work and time management.
Written and oral communication.
Standards and specifications compliance.
On‑the‑job training (OJT) delivery.
Visual analysis and computer proficiency.
Negotiation, conflict resolution, and customer service.
Ability To
Plan, organize, supervise, assign, inspect, and evaluate the work of others.
Motivate staff, provide training and development, and recommend effective solutions to complex maintenance problems.
Develop and implement work standards, prepare concise records and reports, and exercise independent judgment within guidelines.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
Selective Preferences
Experience equivalent to 3 years of Highway OPS Tech IV (HOT 4).
ATSSA Traffic Control Supervisor certification.
Pre‑Employment Requirements Valid Arizona driver’s license required. Must possess a current, unexpired, class‑appropriate license for all state business driving duties. Must meet all required training and pass driver record checks. Employees operating personally owned vehicles on state business must maintain required liability insurance.
All newly hired State employees must complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
