Job Summary The Vascular Immunology Laboratory of Laurel Y. Lee, M.D., D.Phil. in the Division of Cardiology at the Department of Medicine is looking for a Research Technician II. Dr. Lee’s basic and translational science laboratory is dedicated to understanding the immune‑ and metabolism‑mediated mechanisms underlying vascular disorders with the ultimate goal of improving how we protect our patients’ blood vessels against heart attack, stroke, or limb loss. We integrate multidisciplinary approaches, including molecular and biochemical analyses of immune‑vascular crosstalk in vitro and in vivo, cellular metabolism and systems biology all guided by the challenges identified in clinical cardiology.

Successful candidates will become integral parts of the Laurel Lee Lab and actively contribute to the Lab’s scientific discoveries and publications. We are looking for a qualified candidate who will work closely with the principal investigator to provide technical support and help maintain the lab. Prior basic science research experience and mouse work is strongly preferred.

Specific Duties

Perform experiments in science areas, including molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and other related fields.

Maintain and organize mouse colonies and perform mouse experiments per lab protocol.

Record scientific data obtained from assigned experiments in an organized lab notebook and review with supervisor.

Read literature and confer with supervisor for new procedure implementations.

Work with supervisor and other lab members to prepare scientific publications.

Support lab operations through various activities, including ordering reagents, maintaining laboratory areas, and lab equipment maintenance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required – Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in the field of assignment; or 2 years of college with emphasis in the field of assignment; or High School Diploma or GED.

No experience required with Bachelor’s Degree or 2 years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college; or 4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation/GED.

Job Duties

Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.

Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.

Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.

Assists in collection of data for project reports.

Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.

May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.

Performs other duties as assigned.
