Children and Youth Director or Pastor
Redeemer Church of Arlington – Arlington, VA
This role will advance our mission to make disciples of the next generation by helping kids find their place in God’s story through the leadership of Redeemer Kids, establishing a discipleship environment for middle and high school students, and equipping parents as the primary disciple-makers of their children.
The ideal candidate will be gifted at building and leading teams and highly organized and attentive to details in order to help this ministry thrive in our dynamic environment.
This is a salaried position and may be full‑time or part‑time, depending on the candidate’s experience, availability, and calling. We welcome applicants from a range of ministry experience levels. The scope of responsibilities (and potential pastoral designation) will be shaped around the individual’s gifts, maturity, and the church’s needs.
Qualifications

love for Jesus Christ , the gospel, the Bible, and the local church and surrounding community.
Demonstrates the
fruit of the Spirit , ongoing growth in faith, and commitment to
spiritual disciplines
such as Scripture reading, prayer, evangelism, disciple-making, and Sabbath rest.
Models
spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical health
in life and ministry.
Affirms and is accountable to Redeemer Church of Arlington’s Statement of Faith, mission, vision, values, and philosophy of ministry.
Possesses
education and training
that have equipped them for vocational ministry in a dynamic ministry context. (An advanced degree from an accredited seminary preferred, especially for those applying for a pastoral role, but not required.)
Brings several years of experience leading teams, volunteers, and/or ministries through seasons of
healthy growth and change .
If married, has full and joyful
support of their spouse
in taking this position.

Responsibilities
Ensure Alignment:
Keep Redeemer Kids and family ministry aligned with Redeemer’s mission, vision, values, strategies, budget, and safety policies.
Sunday Ministry Oversight:
Oversee all aspects of children’s ministry on Sundays, including consistent curriculum, resources, scheduling, safety, and facilities needs.
Volunteer Recruitment & Development:
Proactively recruit and onboard new volunteers to build a broad, healthy, and sustainable team, with most volunteers serving once per month.
Volunteer Care & Culture:
Foster a joyful, spiritually rewarding culture for the 50+ person volunteer team through regular encouragement, training, and celebration so that serving in this ministry remains life‑giving and fun.
Family Discipleship:
Formally equip parents as the primary disciple‑makers of their children, extending beyond Sunday mornings into the daily life rhythms.
Integration with the Church Body:
Help children and parents connect meaningfully with the larger life of the church and grow toward full participation in Redeemer’s mission and membership.
Youth Ministry
Work with the lead pastor to develop vision for and launch a new ministry to a minimal but growing number of middle and high school students built on gospel‑centered, multi‑generational discipleship, Christ‑centered friendship, and partnership with parents, integrating students into the life of the larger church.
Other Duties
If full‑time, lead 1‑2 additional ministry areas aligned with personal gifting and Redeemer’s needs (e.g., community groups, outreach, communications, or pastoral support), to be determined at hiring by the lead pastor.
Participate fully in the life of Redeemer through staff and leadership meetings, community group involvement, Sunday gatherings, and special events.
Provide care to members and neighbors, including prayer, encouragement, and support for the sick, elderly, hurting, and non‑participating.
Regularly disciple 1‑2 members of Redeemer (one‑on‑one or in cohorts), helping them grow in Christ.
If in a pastoral role, preach 4‑6 times per year and serve in other Sunday leadership roles (announcements, prayer, etc.).
Submit to and support the leadership of the elders.
Accountability
This role reports directly to the lead pastor and will receive an annual performance assessment conducted by the lead pastor and reviewed by the elders.
This position description will be reviewed annually by the elders.
