Job Summary The EVS Associate – In Patient performs daily cleaning tasks in patient areas, office, public, and other non-patient areas. Responsibilities include daily cleaning, equipment cleaning and project cleaning in an assigned area, and respectful, compassionate communication with patients and staff. May include NICU, PACU, ICU, Inpatient Unit-Based Cleaner, Float Team, Discharge Team, Runner, and duties of EVS Assoc-Public.
Essential Responsibilities
Perform multiple step cleaning procedures, daily cleaning, discharge cleaning, bed making, O.R. cleaning, between case cleaning, upholstery, wall, and glass care.
Continue work from previous shift, report incomplete assignments and maintenance issues.
Operate floor care machine for dry and wet mopping in common areas.
Apply carpet care techniques such as bonneting and extracting.
Respond to stat orders (discharges, spills, floods) and hospital-wide emergency drills.
Clean all organic body waste (blood, feces, sputum, urine).
Clean patient equipment: IV poles, commodes, monitors, cables, specialty equipment, stretchers, wheelchairs, cardiac chairs.
Assist in moves, special set-ups, and other duties as needed.
Collect solid and contaminated waste, seal boxes, deliver to designated areas and compactor.
Use department procedures for cleaning solutions, report low inventory, sign equipment in/out, and report equipment malfunctions.
Maintain housekeeping cart cleanliness and report any malfunctioning equipment.
Deliver soiled mops, cleaning cloths, and linen to designated areas.
Required Qualifications
Some high school required.
0-1 year related work experience required.
Basic familiarity with computers.
Basic navigation of web-based applications.
Competencies
Decision Making: Make decisions based on instructions, standard practices, and procedures.
Problem Solving: Address routine problems, follow clear directions, and identify process improvement opportunities.
Independence of Action: Follow general instructions; work monitored by supervisor/manager.
Written Communications Read and write in English to understand safety instructions, give basic directions, communicate with patients and staff, and respond to basic questions.
Oral Communications Understand spoken English to follow safety instructions, give basic directions, and respond to routine questions with patients, families, and staff.
Knowledge Basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures for routine situations; specialized knowledge not required.
Team Work Interact respectfully with employees, professional staff, and external contacts to share ideas, identify issues, obtain information, or deliver services.
Customer Service Demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests timely and respectfully.
Physical Nature of the Job Medium work: Exert up to 50 pounds occasionally or 20 pounds frequently; stand or move around majority of shift.
Pay Range $17.00 – $22.88 (base hourly wage; actual compensation may vary by seniority, education, training, experience, geography, responsibilities, and applicable pay practices).
Vaccination Requirement All staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
