CALTRANS MAINTENANCE AREA SUPERINTENDENT

Salary $7,306.00 – $9,068.00 per month (new‑to‑state candidates hired at the minimum salary of the classification).

Job Description & Duties The Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent reports to the Maintenance Manager I and II and supervises supervisors who manage landscape and maintenance crews. Responsibilities include:
Ensuring proper maintenance of highway travelways, roadside areas, and landscaped areas.
Operating vehicles that require a valid Class C driver’s license.
Scheduling and overtime work, including weekends, holidays, and after‑hours response to emergency calls, hazardous material spills, storms, or special projects.
Working outdoors in all weather conditions, day or night, in normal or emergency situations.
Working safely around heavy equipment, hazardous materials, and high‑speed traffic.
Working Conditions Position located at 3999 State Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93105. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
Minimum Requirements
Valid and unrestricted Class C driver’s license.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of California transportation regulations and safety practices.
Eligibility for hire determined by the Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent exam or the state examination list (for new‑to‑state candidates).
Ability to demonstrate possession of necessary education, license, or certificate; relevant transcripts or documentation may be required.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid and unrestricted Class C driver’s license.
Must operate state‑owned or leased vehicles in accordance with policy.
