The Role We are seeking a Manager with extensive experience in the pesticide industry to join our Regulatory Affairs team. In this role, you will oversee the regulatory compliance of all pesticide products (e.g., topicals, collars, shampoos) across North America (USA, Canada, and Mexico), and serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies.

It is essential to have a deep understanding of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). This will allow you to collaborate with cross‑functional teams and external regulatory consultants, ensuring compliance for both new and existing products. You will also provide your expert guidance to production, sales, marketing, and management on pesticide‑related regulatory matters.

This position is located at our Secaucus, NJ corporate headquarters, and has the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule.

Manage regulatory and label compliance for pesticides in North America (US‑state and federal agencies and Canada), managing product registrations, renewals, adverse‑effect tracking and reporting, product labeling, and related activities with the relevant regulatory agencies

Develop an understanding of the testing protocol, procedures and requirements needed to successfully create and facilitate submissions and registration approval by the regulating Agency

Collaborate with outside Canadian and Mexican consultants (with Sumitomo staff) to manage submissions including new applications, amendments, formulation changes, etc.

Manage federal and state registrations, amendments, and renewal of pesticide products

Monitor EPA database, Federal Register and Trade Association Press to analyze competitor products, ensuring Hartz is properly compensated for the use of data required for the competitor to obtain registration

Enhance knowledge of regulations concerning Adverse Effects, including their classification and reporting. Manage the reporting of Adverse Effects by working with Safety Call to prepare submissions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and international regulatory requirements

Investigate and resolve compliance issues, questions, or complaints received from internal departments, external customers, and government agencies

Assist in the development, review, and approval of advertising and product label copy.

Keep abreast with legislative changes, new guidance documents, and review activities related to products.

Communicate and build networks by representing the organization in industry trade associations; gain insights from these associations and advise Marketing, Management, and R&D about emerging issues, possible regulation changes, and requirements that could affect the marketability of Hartz products

Contribute to the development and approval of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) related to pesticide products, while adhering to compliance standards

Participate on the docket review committee to evaluate and approve all public information concerning pesticides

You’ll Need

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Entomology, or related field with 5+ years’ experience in Regulatory Compliance/Affairs, in the EPA Regulated products industry working with FIFRA; pet products experience strongly preferred

Pesticide Knowledge:

Experience registering new pesticide products, specifically dossier preparation. Strong knowledge of USA and federal pesticide registration requirements, regulations, and processes to maintain and assist in the growth of the market; Canadian pesticide registration knowledge a plus.

Regulations and Compliance Knowledge:

Skilled in interpreting government regulations and complex situations to uncover strategic opportunities, while ensuring compliance with legal requirements

System Proficiency:

Proficiency with National Pesticide Information Retrieval System (NPIRS) and Pesticide Product and Label System (PPLS)

Problem‑solving Skills:

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and conceptual skills to understand and address complex situations or regulations, delivering positive outcomes

Negotiation Skills:

Proven capacity to communicate, negotiate, and influence in cross‑functional environments while maintaining attention to detail

Communication Skills:

Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, coupled with interpersonal and team collaboration abilities

Leadership Skills:

Self‑motivated, with ability to effectively manage, teach and motivate others

Project Management Skills:

Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while consistently achieving desired results

Time Management Skills:

Creative and results‑oriented, able to meet deadlines and deliver high‑quality products that align with consumer, business, company, and pet needs

Animal Feed Regulatory Compliance:

Knowledge or prior training in animal feed regulatory compliance a plus

Technical Proficiency:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Business Travel:

Willingness and ability to travel (5%)

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $135,000 and $150,000. The specific salary offered will depend on the candidate’s qualifications and experience for this position. This role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award.
