Park Construction and Renovation Project Coordinator

Salary: $57,816 – $67,452 (annual range) + benefits

In this role you’ll lead a team of licensed irrigators, manage park renovation projects, and work with contractors, engineers, and community partners to bring improvement projects to life. From maintaining lush athletic fields to supporting local events and tournaments, your work helps ensure Plano’s athletic parks remain places our community is proud of. The position requires regular walking and active support during tournaments, events, and other athletic activities on weekends. Incidents after business hours are handled during a weekly on‑call rotation. Occasional overtime may be required.

Responsibilities
Oversee and inspect park renovation projects to ensure compliance with City standards, best practices and Ordinances.
Supervise a field team of licensed irrigators, assisting with troubleshooting, repairs, renovations and maintenance.
Coordinate various phases of projects, including planning, budgeting, bidding, purchasing, contract management and project execution; review plans, construction documents and estimates.
Work with engineers, contractors, planners and others to prepare plans, specifications, estimates and reports, modifying as required.
Monitor projects to ensure accuracy with plans and recommend design or material changes when appropriate.
Evaluate park facilities, athletic sites and public landscapes and recommend improvements.
Identify and recommend projects for long‑range planning proposals.
Protect existing park infrastructure (trees, turf, facilities, etc.) from damage during construction.
Ensure compliance with state, local and Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations for irrigation design and installation.
Respond to citizen complaints and inquiries.
Prepare and deliver presentations to the Park and Recreation Planning Board and/or interest groups.
When assigned to the Athletics Workgroup, attend weekend work as required.
Maintain regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule.
Marginal Duties
Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Decisions The incumbent evaluates requests for parks‑related renovation and improvement projects, analyzes scope and size, determines necessary manpower and funds, and works with other departments to prioritize projects based on need, budget and staff coordination. The incumbent schedules and implements projects and evaluates completed projects for compliance with requirements.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of construction techniques within a park system; landscaping, irrigation, and engineering standards; equipment, materials and products used within a park system; governmental purchasing policies; building, electrical and plumbing codes sufficient to assess compliance. Skills in effective verbal and written communication; PC operation including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software; complex calculations and measurements; interpreting engineering, landscape and construction drawings; inspecting and evaluating plans versus work performed.
Education Bachelor’s degree in Park Administration, Landscape Architecture or related field required.
Experience Three (3) years of project management for parks or comparable improvement projects, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certifications Texas Class C driver’s license and State of Texas Irrigator’s License required.
Conditions of Employment Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access to Police buildings) and social security number verification.
Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and in the field, traverse uneven terrain, operate a motor vehicle, tools and equipment, and visit City sites. Requires vision to inspect facilities, read printed materials and computer screens; hearing and speech for communication. Fieldwork involves frequent walking, inspections and hazard identification. Finger dexterity for computer input and tool use. Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling. Ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials up to 35 pounds. Exposure to loud noise, cold/hot temperatures, inclement weather, road hazards, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous substances/fumes. Interaction with staff, public and contractors may occur.
