Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist (Structural and Peridomestic IPM) Job Summary: This faculty position will develop an extension, research, and teaching program which addresses the biology, ecology, and management of arthropod pests in and around structures in urban and rural settings.

Key Responsibilities

Extension (60%): Provide statewide leadership and support for Extension programming on structural, urban, and household pest management in residential, commercial, and institutional settings; develop and deliver practical, research-based outreach through stakeholder workshops, seminars, webinars, and online platforms; oversee operations and programming at the Structural Pest Management Training and Research Facility; build and maintain strong partnerships with industry stakeholders and regulatory bodies; represent NC State at state, regional, and national meetings.

Research (25%): Develop a nationally recognized applied research program focused on the biology, ecology, and sustainable management of peridomestic, structural, and household pests; conduct field and laboratory trials to assess the efficacy of pest control products and strategies; secure extramural funding; publish research findings; collaborate with faculty across disciplines.

Teaching (15%): Teach and contribute to courses within undergraduate or Agricultural Institute related to urban entomology, structural pest management, or IPM; support student learning through experiential instruction; mentor graduate students and interns.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a PhD in Entomology or a related field.

A demonstrated record of collaborative research and scholarship, stakeholder engagement, and innovative approaches to pest management.

A commitment to working with Urban Entomology stakeholders and developing innovative pest management approaches.

Demonstrated expertise in a field that complements the department’s research.

Dedication to collaborative research and engagement.
