Job Summary RIT’s Interior Design program invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to teach, conduct research, and contribute to curriculum development within a student‑centered academic environment that emphasizes real‑world projects, global collaborations, and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

Teach comprehensive courses across the Interior Design curriculum, including history, theory, design process, space planning, accessibility, sustainable design, and construction documentation.

Integrate advanced technologies such as BIM, generative design, animation, and AI into instruction.

Develop, revise, and assess course syllabi and teaching materials.

Advise students and supervise research projects.

Engage in scholarly research and creative work that advances the field.

Participate in departmental service, curriculum enhancement, and professional outreach.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Terminal degree in Interior Design (MFA), Interior Architecture (MS, MIA), Environmental Design (MS), Master of Architecture, or related advanced degree with relevant professional experience.

NCIDQ Certificate holder and/or Architect Registration Examination passed.

Minimum three years full‑time professional experience in interior design, architecture, facilities or construction management.

Minimum two years teaching experience at the associate or baccalaureate level beyond a teaching assistantship.

Professional experience designing spaces with interior architectural systems, applicable codes, furniture, finishes, and fixtures.

Proficiency in architectural drafting, visualization, and computer applications; demonstrable experience integrating technologies such as BIM, generative design, animation, and AI.

Demonstrated knowledge in at least three of the following areas: design history, critical theory, design production and methodology, systems thinking, building code and regulations, contract documentation, FF&E packaging, business practices, visual representation, commercial interior design, healthcare facilities, hospitality venues, retail establishments, exhibition and theater, and office design.

Established or burgeoning research scholarship agenda.

Model professionalism and effective communication skills.

Required Minimum Education Level Terminal degree in a relevant field combined with professional experience as outlined above.
