Job Summary Galapagos Federal Systems, LLC is seeking an enthusiastic and highly qualified Information System Security Officer (ISSO) - Level II to join our team of skilled and dedicated professionals supporting the U.S. Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM). The selected candidate will play a key role in maintaining the proper operational security posture for classified information systems. This position requires close coordination with the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) and Information System Owner (ISO) to ensure compliance with all applicable security policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge and hands‑on expertise in managing the daily security operations of information systems supporting Collateral, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and Special Access Program (SAP) environments across the Department of Defense (DoD).
Key Responsibilities
Conducts and oversees security operations, including physical and environmental protection, personnel security, incident response, and security awareness and training programs
Works closely with the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) and Information System Owner (ISO) to monitor information systems and their operating environments
Develops, maintains, and updates authorization documentation; implements and enforces configuration management processes across authorization boundaries
Assesses security impacts of configuration changes and provides recommendations to the ISSM for risk mitigation
Designs and maintains physical and logical system topologies to support secure system architecture
Identifies cybersecurity vulnerabilities and assists in the implementation of countermeasures to reduce risk
Ensures all information system (IS) security documentation is up to date, accurate, and accessible to properly authorized personnel
Required Skills and Experience
Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility required
Minimum of 5 years of relevant DoD experience, including at least 2 years supporting SAP and/or SCI environments
Must consent to and successfully complete a Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph (CI Polygraph) if required by the position
Demonstrated ability to perform all functional duties independently with minimal supervision
Comprehensive understanding of the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) role and ability to support ISSM responsibilities and objectives
Experienced in clearing, sanitizing, and destroying various types of hardware and media in accordance with approved procedures
Proven ability to conduct periodic system reviews to ensure compliance with approved security authorization packages
Knowledgeable in coordinating hardware, software, and firmware changes with the ISSM and Authorizing Official (AO)/Designated Authorizing Official (DAO) prior to implementation
Skilled in monitoring system recovery processes to verify proper restoration and functionality of all security features and procedures
Experienced in collecting, reviewing, and documenting audit records, including identification and analysis of anomalies
Maintains currency through required technical and security training, including operating systems, networking, and security management
Participated in or executed cybersecurity self‑inspections, including coordination and review of system assessment plans
Prepared and delivered reports on the status of security safeguards applied to information systems
Knowledgeable in security impact analysis and proficient in supporting configuration management and continuous monitoring activities within authorization boundaries
Experienced with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and in providing cybersecurity support to DoD, national agencies, and contractor organizations
Education and Certifications
Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree
Must obtain applicable DODM 8140 certifications as appropriate (industry standard within 6‑9 months of hiring)
