Credit Officer Sr, CRE
The Credit Officer Sr, CRE oversees the underwriting, credit analysis, and controls governing the Commercial Real Estate (CRE) Lending Business. The role is responsible for underwriting, risk identification, management and containment associated with complex financing of transitional commercial real estate transactions across many markets and virtually all asset types. Implements and oversees the execution of credit initiatives to protect the organization’s assets and ensure efficiency in the credit approval process. Key partner with both credit risk management team to foster an environment of open dialogue around risk tolerance and the business leadership to ensure the risk tolerance is reflected in the business strategy and execution and the business investments.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
Promotes the appropriate application of all bank and business unit policies and procedures; supports and drives adherence to regulatory compliance requirements.
Manages performance of direct reports through regular, timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of credit objectives and engagement, motivation and development of the team.
Develops business-level processes and procedures to identify and manage risk consistent with bank requirements and mandates.
Ensures business unit compliance with the organization’s processes, procedures and overall credit requirements and guidelines.
Leads underwriting, due diligence and analytical review and oversight associated with new transactions. Defines and manages processes for underwriting and due diligence of new transactions, including managing third‑party diligence providers, guiding the loan approval process and overseeing the legal diligence to close new transactions.
Develops relationships with other internal leaders to identify key risk areas for the organization, evaluates and quantifies potential impact.
Develops and implements reporting requirements and protocol associated with loan portfolio performance.
Provides ongoing management and oversight of loan portfolio performance. Schedules and conducts periodic portfolio and market/property sector reviews to identify and forecast emerging problems and potential impact on portfolio.
Identifies potential structural enhancements to improve credit and reduce risk exposure.
Champions solutions, improvements and best practices to increase operational efficiency and lower the operating costs of the credit department.
Minimum Qualifications
8 years of Credit experience within Commercial Real Estate Lending
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of Credit experience within Commercial Real Estate Lending
10+ years of experience in senior leadership roles with significant credit authority
Substantial experience within a banking regulatory environment
Related policy and procedural development and ongoing implementation experience
Deep understanding of credit risk inherent in financing various common collateral types and circumstances
Ongoing deal management/portfolio management experience as well as workout restructuring
Strong expertise in structuring CRE transactions including all aspects of construction, bridge financing, and participations
Portfolio acquisition and sales experience
Educational Requirements
University (Degree) Preferred
