Pay Base pay range:

$130,000 – $165,000 per year

Job Title Director, Legal & Business Affairs – INTL (New York City office)

Responsibilities

Draft and negotiate sophisticated commercial agreements, including international sub‑publishing agreements.

Coordinate with Warner Chappell’s global offices to enforce company policies and provide cross‑border legal mentorship.

Support catalog acquisitions and corporate deals by collaborating with in‑house and external legal experts.

Advise internal teams—Administration, Digital, Finance—on risk, compliance, and contractual obligations.

Monitor and report on technological advancements, legal developments, and court rulings affecting music publishing.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent from an ABA‑accredited law school.

Admission to the New York State Bar (or eligibility to practice as Registered In‑House Counsel) in good standing.

2‑5 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm or in‑house department, focused on entertainment law.

Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work across cultures and time zones in line with our Code of Conduct and core values.

Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Desirable Skills

Direct experience in the music publishing industry.

Familiarity with U.S. and international copyright law, licensing economics, and collecting societies.

Experience negotiating sub‑publishing or administration agreements.

Understanding of M&A and corporate law.

Foreign language proficiency.
