Major Gifts Officer
Position Reports :
The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) reports directly to the Director of Development
Purpose of the position : To secure funding for the world's leading pro-life and pro-family news agency by managing its major donors in a thoroughly professional manner. Major donors are both assigned to and prospected by the MGO.
Approximate hours per week required by the position : This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) and travel is expected at various times throughout the year. The position may require more than 40 hours per week when necessitated by obligations to our donors.
Responsibilities :
Manage and grow a caseload of 150-200 major donors, engaging with existing donors and qualifying prospective donors.
Share important projects with major donors that they may consider supporting.
Cultivate relationships to understand what motivates the donor and present tailored opportunities for them to fill their passion through major or planned gifts.
Contribute to the expansion of the planned giving program.
Organize and attend key events with major donors.
Collaborate closely with other members of the development team to ensure the best possible donor experience.
Requirements :
Have a minimum of two years experience in managing major donors.
Retain and upgrade donors who represent the highest giving potential for the organization.
Create reasonable financial goals for each donor based on their giving and potential.
Maintain personal contact where appropriate and prepare an ask plan that takes into account the individual donor's interest, motivations, giving patterns and ask preferences.
Secure project and organizational information to write effective offers, proposals, and asks.
Create timely reports that reflect caseload and MGO performance.
Work amenably with team members and management, maintaining a positive and constructive attitude.
