Correctional Captain SECC
role is a full‑time, mid‑senior level position. The incumbent serves as the assistant to the Chief of Custody and/or as a shift supervisor in an adult correctional facility with the Division of Adult Institutions.

Responsibilities
Assist the Chief of Custody or function as a shift supervisor.
Conduct inspections to ensure that Correctional Officers are on duty and attentive to their duties; maintain records of Correctional Officer performance/work habits.
Discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders; refer serious problems to appropriate staff specialists; promote rehabilitation by modifying offenders’ social attitudes.
Assume responsibility for the operation of the facility in the absence of higher‑ranking officers; assume command during emergencies.
Participate on the facility offender disciplinary committee responsible for determining disciplinary measures for cases involving violations of division or facility rules; investigate reported infractions of rules and regulations.
Serve as a member of the facility classification committee; interview new offenders, assist in their assignment, maintain records, and prepare or supervise preparation of a variety of reports.
Direct inspections and searches of offenders, their living quarters, and other areas of the correctional facility.
Exercise considerable discretion in the performance of daily tasks and in emergency situations; conduct training sessions for corrections personnel and perform other related work as assigned.
Undergo a physical examination by a physician (before or at the time of appointment) to determine if the applicant meets the physical standards of employment.
Possess a valid vehicle operator’s license if required by assignment.
Minimum Qualifications
Four or more years of experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility, of which one year must have been as a Correctional Lieutenant with the Missouri Department of Corrections.
High school diploma or proof of high‑school equivalency.
Compensation The annual salary listed for this position includes the additional $0.75 per hour maximum‑security stipend ($1,560 annually) for all full‑time positions domiciled in a maximum security institution. A guaranteed 1 % pay increase is awarded for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
Additional Compensation
$2.00 per hour shift differential if assigned to a shift that begins between 12:00 pm (noon) and 5:00 am at a 24/7 congregate care facility.
$1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if assigned a regular post within a restriction/segregation unit.
