Aquatics Sports Coordinator

manages and plans a variety of youth and adult sports programs, as well as the City’s outdoor swim facilities, tennis programs, and adult recreation leagues. This position plays a key role in creating active, inclusive, and engaging experiences for the community.

The coordinator oversees program operations, seasonal staff, and facility activities to ensure safe, high-quality, and fun opportunities for all participants. This position's schedule and will include evenings, weekends, and holidays as programs and events require.

Performs the full range of duties (with appropriate managerial review), including hiring, evaluating, promoting, and assigning duties; correcting inappropriate actions or behavior through communication and coaching, initiating discipline or termination as needed; and overseeing employees or a group. Performs the tasks of subordinate employees, as needed.

Plans and coordinates all activities related to the outdoor swimming pool facilities, tennis courts and pickleball lesson programming. Oversees the City of Boise's Tennis, personnel and programming. Manages reservations for the City of Boise and Boise School District tennis courts. Plans, implements and develops sports program offerings. Creates policies and procedures for classes, activities and use of recreation facilities. Oversees and approves budgets and purchases for programs and facilities.

Responds to questions, comments and complaints. Serves on the City of Boise Safety Committee to ensure pools are continually used and shares best practices. Serves on the West YMCA Advisory Board to promote and enhance programs for area youth and adults. Consults with the Boise School District to coordinate the use of tennis courts and swimming pools.

Works with outside entities to provide successful pickleball tournaments and the community facility managers to ensure sites are secure for high school competitions. Forecasts, recommends and prioritizes facility projects and improvements. Provides input and recommendations regarding fees, facility rules and participant policies for the aquatic center.

Ensures facilities and classes comply with department and City of Boise policies and procedures and Central District Health Department codes. Participates in annual aquatic training recommended by the Model Aquatic Health Code.

Conducts research and creates reports on programs, incidents and events. Oversees training programs for city employees and ensures that training is provided when needed. Evaluates current program offerings and compares them to trends and requests from the general public. Creates incident responses for facilities and determines whether policies and procedures were followed. Ensures water quality tests are taken weekly and employees are properly trained and certified to maintain swimming requirements. Conducts weekly management meetings to stay aware of current developments and operations.

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, physical education, business management

or a related field

and

three years of experience in a supervisory role in health, fitness or aquatics,

or

an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Knowledge of:

Aquatics and recreation program management.

Effective techniques to compile, develop and organize data into clear written reports.

Budgeting and accounting methods.

Computer usage including related software.

General customer service techniques.

POS software used by the facilities.

Effective supervisory principles and practices.

Ability to:

Schedule and effectively oversee all logistics of community events.

Lead teams at various locations.

Manage multiple priorities.

Develop and update facility rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance.

Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Five years of experience providing recreation aquatics program and facility management and supervision.

Current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI).

Licensing And Other Requirements

Valid state-issued driver's license.

Current Red Cross Lifeguard and Current Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.

CPR and First Aid Instructor certification through American Red Cross or equivalent certifying institution.

Special Requirements Applicants must be able to pass:

City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Driving Record Check

Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.

This position is required to supervise employees during the performance of critical incident functions which require employees to qualify to carry firearms, perform emergency medical, lifesaving and/or fire suppression activities.

Physical Efforts While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds and rarely pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate and rarely loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures and in wet and humid conditions. Employees work in/at heights. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to bodily fluids.

This position works: weekends, evenings, and holidays as programs require.
