Digital technology is a fundamental driver of change, and UNDP’s Digital, AI & Innovation (DAI) Hub is leading the effort to embed digital technology in development projects, supporting government partners to build inclusive digital ecosystems.

Job Description The Digital, AI & Innovation Hub leads UNDP’s Local Language Accelerator Programme – a global initiative to accelerate inclusive access to and local use of data in low‑resource languages so that digital products are available in languages spoken by more than 3 billion people. The program focuses on advocacy, partnership, and strategic investment in country offices to promote AI in local languages. The role will also involve leadership of the “Every Language Matters” global campaign, high‑level events, and contribution to UNDP’s knowledge products on linguistic diversity in AI.

Responsibilities

Co‑manage design and lead implementation of UNDP’s Local Language Accelerator Programme so that at least nine countries build more inclusive AI ecosystems.

Develop recommendations for the strategic direction and delivery mechanism of the program.

Manage country implementations and guide the Data & AI Project Analyst to achieve results in at least nine countries.

Maintain and scale stakeholder relationships by engaging with funders, co‑implementors, and experts to close the language gap in AI and support resource mobilization for the DAI Hub.

Co‑manage design and lead implementation of the Global Campaign on “Every Language Matters.”

Work with UNDP’s knowledge & strategy team to define the strategic approach and ensure smooth implementation.

Secure meaningful commitments from at least five governments.

Lead the implementation of at least two high‑level events on the campaign.

Contribute to UNDP’s knowledge products (e.g., blogs, white papers) and global advocacy on linguistic diversity in AI, coordinating with communication specialists and knowledge leads.

Required Skills & Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience (with a master’s degree) or 7 years (with a bachelor’s degree) in international development, the technology sector, or the public sector.

Demonstrated experience in project leadership of multi‑year projects.

Experience engaging with policymakers in digital transformation initiatives.

Experience guiding junior team members.

Deep understanding of challenges and opportunities in closing the language gap in AI.

Desired Skills

Experience designing and/or implementing global advocacy campaigns.

Deep understanding of inclusive digital transformation and digital public infrastructure.

Experience capturing and synthesizing information to produce analysis and recommendations.

Experience working with the UN or other large‑scale development organizations.

Experience in resource mobilization (desired).

Comfort with ambiguity, navigating unstructured environments, and adapting priorities effectively.

Strong problem‑solving and systems‑thinking skills, with the ability to identify interdependencies across complex projects.

Education Advanced university degree (Master’s) in Public Administration, International Development, Law, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required. A first‑level university degree (bachelor’s) may be accepted with two additional years of qualifying experience.
