Job Title:

Marine Structural Welder – Aluminum

Department:

POSITION SUMMARY:

Structural Welder-Aluminum will accomplish production welding aboard ship vessels and Fabrication shop. Components to weld include but are not limited to structural parts, deck plates, bulkheads and foundations using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding Pulse (GMAW-P) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) processes.

Must be able to work within a team-based environment to accomplish all aspects of welding and fabrication.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

(List is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but it’s representative of the job’s overall responsibilities.)

Must have knowledge in burning use of torch/light torch); make up plating (align, fit) and knowledge of plating material (CuNi- Copper nickel, Aluminum, stainless steel); blueprint (reading, interpret) including sketching; tack welding; portable plasma arc; lay out access cuts and inserts; tank inspections/testing.

Core Welding Skills

GMAW (Pulse / Spray) – All Positions

Must be able to perform GMAW welds.

Capable of producing X-Ray (RT) quality welds in all positions.

Ability to produce consistent fillet welds per blueprint specifications or manager direction.

Qualification Test: 2G, 3G, & 4G plate

Additional Requirements

Experience working in physically demanding environments (shipboard spaces, sub-assemblies, ladders, staging, confined areas).

Familiarity with OSHA regulations relevant to shipbuilding and marine environments.

Ability to properly use fillet weld gauges and butt weld gauges for quality verification.

Wears all PPE and follows all safety requirements on the jobsite

Follow instructions and ensure products are meeting customer requirements

Maintain good housekeeping

Other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Adept multitasker able to handle several welding construction and repair assignments with full accuracy and efficiency.

Shipyard Aluminum experience.

Proficiency in all position use of: GMAW, FCAW, SMAW; all sizes of weld wire

Proficient in the use of oxy/fuel cutting equipment, electric welding machines

Ability to meet deadlines and maintain quality service

Demonstrate a strong work ethic.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

of (1) years of experience in structural welding and operations.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)

Gas Metal Arc Welding Pulse (GMAW-P)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity. They must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; or review work at heights. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. They may be required to work more than 10 hours and weekend work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is regularly performed in outside weather conditions, including rain and extreme heat, near moving mechanical parts and includes occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and to vibration; While in production areas the person will be exposed to noise, dusts and odors.
