The Salvation Army Midtown Service and Treatment Center is looking for a Substance Abuse Counselor. This individual will be responsible for counseling clients, conducting intakes, assessments, crisis intervention, developing treatment plans, ongoing follow up counseling and treatment plan reviews, developing safety plans, group therapy, and education and facilitating referrals.

Essential Duties

Maintain confidential, systematic, accurate documentation of client progress.

Lead group counseling and education sessions with clients daily.

Conduct evaluation interviews to assess the type of treatment required by the client.

Make referrals to Community Support Worker, Mental Health Counselor and outside agencies as needed.

Conduct family education sessions and/co-dependent counseling.

Maintain daily service activity reports, monthly veteran’s assistance reports, weekly staffing reports and other reports as needed.

Attend weekly staff meetings, counseling team meetings, peer to peer chart review sessions, monthly in‑service training sessions, and other meetings as directed.

Participate in related community activities as time permits.

Maintain a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co‑workers, and supervisors.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related field with two years’ full‑time experience in treatment or rehabilitation of substance abuse is required. The candidate must be an Alcohol, Drug or Substance Abuse Counselor certified by the Missouri Substance Abuse Counselors Certification Board (incorporated credentials will be considered). Additionally, the following credentials are required: QSAP, CADC, CRAADC, CCJP, CCDP, CCDP‑D, LPC, LCSW, or Clinical Psychologist. CPR/First Aid certification is required. The candidate must demonstrate general computer proficiency, strong organizational and communication skills, be a team player, self‑starter, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously, and perform well with minimum supervision. Self‑direction, sound judgment, and a high level of confidentiality are essential.

Physical And Work Environment Requirements The role requires performing in an office environment, including using a computer, answering phones, moving client files, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature‑controlled environment.
