Job Summary As the Environmental Manager, you will plan, coordinate, and implement a range of environmental compliance and sustainability topics. You will be responsible for supporting the site’s progress towards and achievement of L’Oreal for the Future 2030 goals including 100% material recovery (recycle or reuse of all waste), waste reduction, energy consumption reduction, Water Loop, wastewater COD reduction, and implementing a biodiversity plan for the site. You will also be responsible for managing programs wholly or in part, potentially including prevention of water, soil, and air pollution, hazardous waste management, and/or solid waste management with associated reporting and recordkeeping. You will actively participate in identifying new and improved processes that will result in time or waste savings.
Key Job Accountabilities
Environmental compliance: manage programs such as hazardous waste, air, stormwater, wastewater, and/or chemical storage and management. Hazardous waste compliance program assistance including shipments such as air permit information and wastewater permit. Tier II environmental chemical storage reporting; Department of Homeland Security chemical requirements and Safety Data Sheet management for on‑site chemicals
Inspections: stormwater, spill prevention, and hazardous waste storage areas
Recordkeeping: sample and inspection data; refrigerant‑containing equipment management and leak tracking
Permit management: such as air permit information and wastewater permit
Training and Program Management: DOT Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods; Spill Team training and program management
Conducts investigations and Root‑Cause Analyst: follow‑up on LEAP incidents involving hazardous waste, spills, etc. conducts investigations, institutes audits, and prepares and/or reviews reports and related information to evaluate existing organizations, policies, procedures, and practices as related to the environmental program
Environmental Management: coordination of ISO 14001; documentation of environmental procedures and processes such as waste management; documentation and training on significant environmental aspects
Assist with environmental sustainability efforts for L’Oreal for the Future as needed, including the following: project management for waste reduction, waste recovery; education and awareness campaign, visuals, etc; data collection, reporting and analysis including environmental waste, water, energy, and biodiversity data (e.g., monthly C1 - Internal use GRAAL, Master Plan, project management); data and project presentation for Plant Status and Group tools
Training: manage and provide EHS training
Required Experience/Training/Competencies
Education: bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, etc. or engineering (e.g. Environmental Engineering); master’s degree preferred
Experience: 5+ years of previous experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated environmental management and/or sustainability.
Compliance Experience: experience in environmental compliance/EPA regulations including RCRA, EPCRA, Air Permitting, SPCC, SWPP, and/or wastewater permitting
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required and ability to learn internal programs
Technical Knowledge: environmental sustainability topics such as waste, water, carbon emissions, circular economy, and/or biodiversity
Certifications: C CHMM certification is desired
Ideal candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the company; have strong organizational skills to manage environmental programs effectively; demonstrated professional judgment and sound decision‑making skills; ability to work collaboratively in a cross‑functional team environment and influence across all levels of the organization; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment; self‑motivated with a proactive approach to safety management and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all safety and environmental procedures.
This role requires daily on‑site presence supporting 24‑hour 7‑day week operation with occasional work‑from‑home flexibility and potential travel to other L’Oréal facilities as needed (up to 15%).
