Position Summary The laboratory of Dr. Wieland at the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO) studies the immunological landscape of human papillomavirus-associated head and neck cancer (HNC). Central questions of the lab are which viral antigens are being targeted, which immune cell subsets participate in anti-tumor responses, and how they interact. The lab employs several state-of-the-art techniques to address these questions using predominately patient-derived specimens. In addition, the lab is actively engaged in the production of recombinant proteins and human monoclonal antibodies to support our own work as well as other researchers worldwide. Overall, the work of the lab is aimed to determine how anti-tumor immune responses can be harnessed for improved therapy outcomes of cancer patients.
