The Sophia Bremer Early Learning Academy at Olympic College provides comprehensive early learning services for the Olympic College community.
Role Overview
The Early Childhood Program Specialist 3 is the lead teacher in the classroom, responsible for the engagement and support of children aged birth to 5. The teacher works with a direct‑services team to promote educational opportunities, developmental growth, and positive family partnerships. The role includes curating curriculum aligned with school‑readiness goals, ensuring compliance with licensing and accreditation standards, and serving as a model of professionalism, integrity, and collaboration with families, colleagues, and community partners.
Essential Functions
Oversee the execution of all classroom activities and ensure application of program‑approved best practices and licensing compliance.
Create and plan a developmentally and age‑appropriate curriculum that incorporates best developmentally appropriate practices.
Develop, plan and oversee the implementation of culturally responsive individual, small‑group, and large‑group activities that cultivate each child’s sense of importance and belonging across indoor and outdoor settings.
Assess and screen the development of each child using program‑approved tools and instruments to maintain a healthy, safe, and developmentally appropriate program.
Model positive communication skills, guidance techniques, and nurturing qualities while promoting positive attachments between caregivers, children, and families, consistent with program‑approved best practices.
Use and remain knowledgeable of all educational equipment and supplies routinely used in the program, and coordinate requests with the director as necessary.
Create and provide classroom visual aids and resources as needed.
Complete, secure, and deliver all required documentation.
Establish and maintain an effective system of involving parents in developing a child’s individual learning goals, preparing curriculum plans, documenting and recording learning, and measuring child outcomes.
Plan, coordinate, and lead parent conferences and home visits.
Inform families about their child’s routines, activities, and behavior through regular communication (twice a week) by email, photos, and videos, and maintain records of these discussions.
Recognize parents as the child’s primary teachers and become familiar with family circumstances.
Maintain positive, open communication that foregrounds a child’s strengths and developmental needs.
Facilitate opportunities for parents to learn about the child’s growth and development and increase connections between school and home.
Support dual‑language families with classroom and program resources where necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
2‑year ATA or AAS‑T Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Two (2) years of full‑time equivalent (FTE) experience working with low‑income families.
One (1) year of FTE experience working with families from diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, social, human, or health services, or a related field from an accredited higher education institution.
One (1) year FTE experience working in Head Start, Early Head Start, or Early Childhood Education and Assistant Programs (ECEAP); children with disabilities; and families of community college students.
Successful Applicant Will
Satisfy all DCYF requirements for this role for Early Learning Programs, pursuant to WAC 110‑300‑0100.
Pass the DCYF Portable Background Check and an OC criminal records background check.
Provide official college transcripts for verification if hired.
Show proof of all necessary immunizations, certifications, and tests, including a TB test, MMR vaccination, and STARS certification requirements prior to employment.
Complete all mandatory training within one month of hire, including WAC and Licensing Training, Child Care Basics Training, Safe Sleep Training, Abusive Head Trauma Training, Mandated Reporter Training, Medication Management Training, Families Experiencing Homelessness Training, Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Training, Blood Borne Pathogens Training, CPR & First Aid for Infants and Children certificate, and Food Handlers Permit.
Maintain all certifications and training as required by state and federal guidelines.
Working Conditions
The position requires punctuality and regular attendance. Work occurs both inside and outside. There is occasional exposure to blood and other bodily fluids. Occasional evening and weekend training may be required.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and perform bending, squatting, stooping, and getting up and down from the floor with ease.
Terms of Employment
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The employee must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance of the campus to respond to reporting requirements at the time of hiring, with frequent travel to campus sites allowed.
Benefits
This full‑time classified position offers a salary range of $43,716 – $58,380 annually. Classified positions start at Step A and receive a 5 % pay increase after six months of probation.
