The Art Director will lead concept development and execution of creative campaigns for both new product launches and top-performing best sellers. You will also play a key role in building and maintaining a scalable image library that supports the brand across channels. This role requires a strategic thinker, a hands-on visual storyteller, and a highly collaborative team player with a deep understanding of the beauty and skincare space.
Reporting to: VP, Creative
Location: NYC area – Work from Home
Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 annually + annual performance bonus
Responsibilities
Lead concept creation and visual execution of 360° campaigns across digital, social, print, and retail for both product launches and hero SKUs.
Develop art direction and creative briefs aligned with brand strategy and marketing goals.
Direct and oversee photo and video shoots—including model and still life—ensuring premium execution across all assets.
Partner with copywriters, marketers, and channel leads to ensure consistency and performance across deliverables.
Image Library Growth
Strategically build and manage a robust, evergreen image library for use across all departments and platforms.
Maintain high standards of visual consistency while refreshing content to stay current with trends and consumer expectations.
Ensure organized storage, tagging, and easy accessibility of all visual assets.
Creative Collaboration & Production
Collaborate with photographers, stylists, retouchers, editors, and color graders to deliver best-in-class content across formats.
Provide clear, actionable direction to external partners and internal teams from pre-production through post.
Oversee color correction, retouching, and finishing to align with brand tone and quality standards.
Brand Identity & Visual Systems
Uphold and evolve the brand’s visual identity across all creative touchpoints.
Translate strategic objectives into visually compelling concepts and executions.
Contribute to design systems, templates, and creative process optimization to streamline production.
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree & 5 years of directly related experience
Master’s degree & 7 years of directly related experience
Bachelor’s degree & 9 years of directly related experience
Associate’s degree & 12 years of directly related experience
High school diploma / GED & 13 years of directly related experience
7+ years of experience in art direction, preferably in beauty, skincare, or lifestyle consumer brands
Proven expertise directing and producing content across digital, social, video, and print channels
Strong portfolio showcasing creative leadership in campaigns and content development
Experience managing and directing shoots across model, product, and lifestyle content
Tools/Technical Skills
Full Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, After Effects, Premiere Pro, etc.)
Figma (for cross-functional collaboration and layout design)
MidJourney (or similar AI tools for concept visualization and moodboarding)
Strong understanding of photography, lighting, styling, post-production, and color grading workflows
Experience working with creative production partners including photographers, stylists, retouchers, video editors, colorists / color graders
Preferred Experience
Beauty, skincare, or fashion industry background
Experience with both DTC and wholesale/retail creative environments
Strong understanding of current design and content trends
Familiarity with digital asset management (DAM) systems
