Qualification Requirements Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communication, education, or related field.

OR

Associates degree from an accredited college in communications, marketing, education, or related field and two (2) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.

OR

A combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.

Job Summary Under general supervision, assists with developing and implementing solid waste and environmental resources programs, education, and outreach. Develops and distributes educational materials about solid waste services and programs. Assists with supporting the Southeast Minnesota Recyclers Exchange (SEMREX). Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

Develops a variety of internal and external communications for the department. Distributes through print, digital, graphics, website updates, video, and social media channels.

Assists with implementing communication plans and strategies for the department.

Creates and documents successful brand and visual identity, risk communications, and culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate communications.

Assists with coordinating community engagement efforts and events to promote Environmental Resources programs. Presents information to the public.

Assists with implementing Environmental Resources media advertising and marketing campaigns. Collaborates with staff and media to develop and schedule radio and TV ads.

Assists with implementing marketing plans. Analyzes data on marketing efforts and makes advertising budget recommendations.

Assists individuals, businesses, and government agencies regarding solid waste programs.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations related to environmental resources programs.

Knowledge of communication principles, practices strategies and techniques.

Knowledge of public relations principles, practices, and techniques.

Skill in effective verbal and written communication including presentations.

Skill in the use of computers and technology.

Skill in the use of written, digital, and social media communication.

Skill in website design, and other electronic and social media.

Skill in editing and proofreading.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to effectively solve problems.

Ability to organize and prioritize work tasks.

Ability to write or edit in a variety of writing styles and on a wide range of topics.
