The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer

is a highly skilled professional specializing in high-risk obstetric ultrasounds, focusing on fetal anatomical development and maternal well-being. This role involves utilizing high-frequency sound waves and color Doppler Ultrasound to identify abnormalities, aiding in accurate diagnostics. Knowledge of ultrasound equipment, structured reporting, and image management is essential for precise diagnoses and quality patient care. The MFM Sonographer may also perform routine obstetrical and gynecological ultrasounds.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform advanced ultrasounds for high-risk pregnancies, including detailed fetal anatomy assessments following AIUM level 2 guidelines and department requirements. Must have an in-depth understanding of fetal anatomy and development for accurate assessments.

Conduct comprehensive Doppler studies to evaluate fetal blood flow, placental circulation, and conditions such as fetal growth restrictions, anemia, or anomalies.

Assist with complex invasive procedures like amniocentesis, amnioreduction, and chorionic villi sampling (CVS) in collaboration with maternal-fetal medicine physicians.

Monitor fetal growth through serial ultrasounds, providing data for high-risk management and interventions, and ensure accuracy of all prenatal records.

Use excellent communication skills and compassion to support and guide patients regarding prenatal diagnoses for both maternal and fetal health.

Document and report findings thoroughly for ongoing medical evaluation and multidisciplinary team management.

If scheduled at the Women's & Children's Center, perform additional evaluations such as first trimester emergencies, abdominal ultrasounds, and pediatric ultrasounds.

Complete exams and documentation consistently in PACS and OB/GYN reporting systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and accurate record retrieval.

Identify and record charges associated with exams, proactively resolving errors to maintain billing accuracy and financial integrity.

Qualifications:

Education:

Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from a CAAHEP-accredited program.

Experience:

Required: 0-1 year of ultrasound clinical experience; Preferred: 2 years of MFM ultrasound experience.

Licensure/Certification:

Required: ARDMS with OB/GYN registry, BLS CPR. Preferred: ARDMS with OB/GYN, Abdomen, and Fetal Echo registries.
