General Motors Mechanical Journeyperson (Pipefitter) Job Description

General Motors is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Pipefitters). You will work under minimal supervision with a high level of independent judgment and problem-solving skills. Flexibility to handle multiple job assignments during a shift is essential. Preferred Experience

Experience with planned maintenance systems and predictive technologies Experience with industrial robotics, automation, and conveyance systems Primary Responsibilities

Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company policies Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery, including bearings, seals, motors, generators, air compressors, engines, pumps, cylinders, gears, couplings, linkages, ball screws, CNC spindles, coolant systems, filters, and combustion equipment Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems Use hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings Read and interpret blueprints for the mechanical operation and assembly of conveyor systems, material handling systems, robots, and automation equipment Operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, vertical lifts, and cranes Determine loading requirements for rigging equipment and materials for lifting Set up and operate CNC machine tools like lathes, milling machines, and grinders to shape parts Fabricate punches, tools, and steel rule dies to exact specifications Plan operations for fabricating tools or assemblies using blueprints, sketches, or models Verify the quality of finished products by checking dimensions, alignment, and clearances with measuring instruments
