What You Will Be Doing

Professionally maintain all heavy‑duty equipment associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads and rural airports, as well as light‑duty equipment for secondary roads and user agency vehicles, including computerized diagnostics and electronic repair.

Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems using a variety of techniques; perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on diverse heavy equipment in both shop and remote settings.

Diagnose, maintain, repair, and modify transmission and drive trains, suspension, engine & emissions, fuel injection, hydraulic, and brake systems (air and electrical) for light and heavy‑duty equipment.

Working Environment This position is located in King Salmon; MP 0.1 Alaska Peninsula Highway. Some travel in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is expected, including day trips and overnight stays.

Special Notice

ETT (Emergency Trauma Treatment) 40‑hour training, ARFF training including 40‑hour course, medical evaluation, and fit test for self‑contained breathing apparatus.

Training in Managing Wildlife Hazards at Airports (provided after hire).

Proficient at operating heavy equipment.

Steel‑toed boots or other approved personal protection equipment.

Knowledge of firearm usage and ammunition handling required.

Ability to perform ARFF duties in support of Part 139.

Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) required.

Minimum Qualifications Vacancies in this job class are filled through Union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments.

Documents Required at Time of Interview

Copy of your Class A CDL, front and back (if applicable).

Three (3) professional references (include name, title, phone number).

Commercial Driver’s License Requirement Must possess a Class A CDL per federal regulations (49 CFR 383) and provide consent for review by the Employer. Hire approval is conditional on obtaining a Class A CDL within 120 days of hire.

ARMS & AMMUNITION REQUIREMENT This position requires the use of firearm or ammunition. A misdemeanor crime of domestic violence disqualifies applicants.

Drug and Alcohol Policy Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF drug and alcohol policy and cannot start work in a CDL position until clearance from the pre‑employment drug test.

Tool Allowance Employees are required to provide their own hand tools and will receive a monthly tool allowance determined by position.
