Job Summary: Our client is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their Business Office team. The Payroll & Benefits Specialist reports to the Accounting Associate and is responsible for the administration and management of employee benefits programs, which include health, retirement, and leave policies. Key responsibilities include ensuring legal compliance, resolving employee questions, analyzing benefits plans for cost and value, and maintaining accurate benefits data. They also handle open enrollment, process claims, and provide educational materials to employees about their benefits. In addition, this Individual will be responsible for processing payroll, hiring and termination of employees, and maintaining employee records. This is a part-time, 25 hour per week position; but can also be full-time. We are willing to find a mutually beneficial schedule for the right candidate.
Responsibilities:
Processing employee compensation accurately and on time, managing payroll data, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and tax regulations.
Calculating wages, handling deductions for taxes and benefits, maintaining payroll records, and resolving any discrepancies.
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions about pay.
Ensure that employee records are maintained appropriately in accordance with State and Federal guidelines.
Processing the hiring and termination process for all employees.
Conduct internal audits to ensure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and practices are satisfactorily and consistently followed.
Oversight of the organization’s 401k Retirement Plan, as well as making timely biweekly contributions, preparing census data, review of tax filings, and ensuring timely distribution of informational information to participants.
Manage health, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefit plans, handling enrollments, claims, and eligibility.
Review and approve unemployment and leave claims.
Liaison between the organization and the workers’ compensation carrier for any claims.
Ensure the organization's benefits programs comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, such as HIPAA, COBRA, and FMLA.
Prepare data for internal reporting and regulatory requirements, such as those from the IRS, Department of Labor, & OSHA.
Prepare reports as necessary for management.
Annual review of employee health, life and disability insurance policies to create cost-effective and attractive packages for the organization and its employees.
Required:
5-7 years experience in human resources and payroll
Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Suite
Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations like FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, and ERISA
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
High attention to detail
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
Ability to manage deadlines
