Position Purpose Upholds the Credit Union’s mission of “We do the right thing one member, one employee, and one experience at a time to strengthen the communities we serve” by performing consumer loan underwriting. Under the direction of the Consumer Underwriting Supervisor, the Consumer Underwriter reviews all consumer loan applications for completeness and accuracy and applies the Credit Union’s lending policies to make lending decisions. Maintains a working knowledge of the department processes and assists the Consumer Loan Processors as needed.

Essential Responsibilities

Review consumer loan applications in Loan Director, both internal and indirect, applying the Credit Union’s Lending Policy to make sound lending decisions.

Assist Member Service Representatives and dealers with underwriting questions and complicated loan applications.

Verify income and approve other conditions per loan approval requirements.

Review requests that pertain to existing loans (Collateral Switch, Release Requests, rate changes, payment due date changes, adding/cancelling debt protection).

Review credit bureau requests received through E-Oscar and directly from members, correct reporting issues via the E-Oscar system.

Review student loans through LendKey.

Complete internal audits of direct consumer loans.

Necessary Experience And Qualifications

High school education plus some technical school or college training; able to read, write, comprehend detailed instructions.

Basic computer skills (Loan Director, Email, Word, Excel); able to use fax and adding machine.

Three to six months of on-the-job experience with the Credit Union, understanding products, services, procedures.

Strong attention to detail for over 90% of work time; high degree of accuracy.

Analytical ability to research, resolve complex issues, recommend business decisions.

Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with members, employees, vendors in stressful situations; communication/listening skills, motivation, delegation, basic disciplinary skills.

Consistent leadership traits; supports overall business objectives.

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

Frequent use of telephone and computer.

Prolonged sitting or standing.

Frequent mental and visual concentration.

NOTE: This job has the potential to work from home, contingent upon manager approval. Approval will be based on the Work From Home Policy eligibility requirements as well as the department needs.
