Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner will serve as a frontline provider for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) patients at Benioff Children’s Hospitals in Oakland and San Francisco providing care in 12-hour rotating shifts. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a member of the care team, taking primary responsibility for the safe delivery of care for inpatient newborns and infants. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated.
UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals rank among the nation's best in all 11 specialties assessed in U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings #6 in Neonatology for 2025. We have two main campuses serving children and their families, one in Oakland and one in San Francisco, as well as satellite locations throughout Northern California. UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital San Francisco and Children's Hospital Oakland have together created Northern California's largest network of pediatric providers and are the only hospitals in San Francisco and the East Bay dedicated solely to children.
The Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) was founded in 1964 and pioneered fetal surgery and is a 58-bed unit that provides care for critically ill newborns and infants. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Oakland is a 42-bed Level IV unit. The hospital is home to the East Bay's only level IV NICU, meaning it has the sophisticated equipment and highly trained staff to care for the sickest of newborns when other facilities cannot. Both NICUs have the expertise to treat the smallest, sickest, and most fragile babies needing surgery for heart, lung, gastrointestinal, and other life‑threatening conditions. Our neonatal heart program is one of the largest in the country, treating almost 200 newborns with heart disease each year. The ICN is a Regional Intensive Care Nursery and works with a network of 24 hospitals in Northern California to provide neonatology care.
