Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a full-time position with the Carson City Fire Department, located in Carson City, NV. Employees receive a generous benefits package, including City-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, and Nevada PERS retirement. Under general supervision, safely provides patient care and transports Advanced Life Support patients from one location to another. Position responds to 911-dispatched BLS (Basic Life Support), ILS (Intermediate Life Support) and ALS (Advanced Life Support) calls. Pay Range

Pay Range: Hourly and Annual. Paramedic (Non-Suppression) — $33.16 - $38.39 per hour; $68,972.80 - $79,851.20 per year. Responsibilities

Serves as a paramedic responding to emergency medical incidents, analyzing and taking command of patient care, with full responsibility for the patient(s) until relieved by proper medical personnel. Response to 911 dispatched BLS, ILS and ALS calls. Perform medical aid at the Paramedic Emergency Medical Technician level. Administers medical aid at medical emergencies; applies techniques for patient care; utilizes immobilization techniques to stabilize patients. Performs daily vehicle inspections to include basic vehicle checks and minor maintenance; recommends and monitors service repairs when necessary. Answers questions and provides information to patients as required; may provide information to medical and social service providers regarding client status. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit\'s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team; addresses and resolves complaints when presented. Routinely wash and clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle, including fueling the vehicle. Complete appropriate documentation, including but not limited to, run logs and accurate patient reports. Uses radio and/or phone to communicate and receive information in the vehicle on patient transfers or status. Routinely inspects equipment for function and cleanliness; orders additional or replacement inventory when needed. Participate in training sessions which include emergency medical care and the proper use of all equipment and related tools. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with elected officials, public, and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment. At times, it may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish the requirements of the position. Education, Certifications, and Licenses

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and Experience: High School diploma, GED or equivalent REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: All required licenses and certifications must be maintained in active status without suspension or revocation throughout employment. A Valid Driver\'s License. Current or the ability to obtain an Ambulance Attendants License within one month of employment. Current CPR certification (must be attached to your application at time of submittal). Current ACLS card (must be attached to your application at time of submittal). Current PALS or PEPP certification (must be attached to your application at time of submittal). Current ITLS or PHTLS certification (must be attached to your application at time of submittal). Current NREMT-P (National Registry Paramedic) or a current State of Nevada Paramedic licensure (must be attached to your application at time of submittal). Knowledge and Skills

Required Knowledge Knowledge of: Laws, rules, and regulations for operating a motor vehicle in the state of Nevada. Streets and roads located within the City and surrounding areas. Proper technique to move patients from bed to gurney. Proper radio communication technique. Record keeping principles and practices. Safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work. Department policies and procedures. Advanced emergency medical procedures and patient assessment techniques. Arithmetic computations and formulas. Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Computer applications involving word processing, data entry and/or standard report generation. Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, often in situations which may be stressful. Evaluating patients\' conditions and properly rendering emergency medical care, including the administration of emergency medications. Preparing and composing reports and records on activities performed. Communicating effectively in oral and written forms. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Supervision and Working Conditions

Supervision received and exercised:

Under General Supervision – Incumbents at this level receive assignments and objectives governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions. The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Conditions of Employment

All new employees will serve a probationary period of twelve (12) months. Such employees are not subject to the collective bargaining agreement and may be laid off or discharged during this period for any reason, or no reason. Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. Employees in this position must be willing to work flexible schedules/shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime to meet the required hours of operation. Employees may be required to complete Incident Command System training as a condition of continuing employment Any City employee may be required to stay at or return to work during emergencies to perform duties specific to this classification or to perform other duties as requested in an assigned response position. This may require working a non-traditional work schedule or working outside normal assigned duties during the incident and/or emergency. New employees are required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which costs the new employee $47.00, and a drug screen, which costs $36.50. Employment is contingent upon passing the background and drug screen. Carson City participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each applicant\'s Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
