Berkeley Medical Center serves the community as a 195‑bed non‑profit acute care hospital. BMC offers full radiology services including MRI, PET, nuclear medicine and interventional radiology; a wound care center with two hyperbaric chambers, a NICU, a 20‑bed ICU, oncology services, neurosurgery services (including a Mazor robot) and a Cardiac Cath Lab. Our Eastern Panhandle location is little more than an hour from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, MD. A rural atmosphere and a lower cost of living mixed with the easy accessibility to the Washington DC / Baltimore areas make the Eastern Panhandle an ideal place in which to live. While our Berkeley County is among the fastest growing counties in the state, there is little congestion and traffic. In recent years, a steady influx of urban professionals from nearby Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland have contributed to the growth of local telecommuting and high‑tech industries.
The West Virginia University Health System, West Virginia's largest health system with more than 2,700 beds is the state's largest private employer, is comprised of more than 20 hospitals, including a children's hospital and five institutes, all anchored by a 700‑bed academic medical center in Morgantown, West Virginia.
