Morristown Hamblen Overview Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System has 167 licensed beds and 23 emergency suites. The hospital offers outstanding ancillary services including Laboratory, Radiology and Therapy services. At our Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, women can have their annual mammograms, biopsies, and can meet with a nurse navigator if needed. The Women’s Center offers six newly remodeled labor and delivery suites and has a secure nursery for the care of our newborns. It serves an eight-county region in the Lakeway Area and is equipped with modern technologies and expert staff to provide the best possible patient care. Emergency Department Our 23-bed Emergency Department is equipped with the latest technology including computerized patient tracking, Radiology Services https://www.covenanthealth.com/diagnostic-services/ inside the ER and easy access to Surgery https://www.morristownhamblen.com/surgery/, Intensive Care https://www.morristownhamblen.com/services/critical-care-unit/, and other vital areas of the hospital. We are equipped with the only Heart Cath Labs in the Lakeway Area. The Emergency Department is also the area’s only Designated General Pediatric Emergency Facility, offering specialized equipment and advanced training and certification in caring for emergencies involving children.

Position Summary Functions as a specialized direct patient caregiver in the Emergency Department, performing tasks to assist nurses and providers. Performs hands‑on care, specified technical tasks, and coordinates communications on the unit.

Responsibilities

Enter and update the ED tracking board promptly to communicate with staff.

Document/maintain patient record as appropriate.

Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressures, oxygen saturation, weights, heights, and intake‑output measurements.

Complete all items/activities on “TECH CHECKLIST of DAILY ACTIVITIES” as applicable.

Order patient care supplies and keep supplies stocked in proper amounts in rooms, carts and other areas as appropriate.

Cleans and wraps instruments to transport to sterile processing with ability to correctly identify and replace proper surgical instruments on appropriate trays.

Assist in maintaining a safe environment, which may include checking equipment daily for proper function and reporting equipment that is out of order, appropriate handling of linen and storing of supplies.

Gather equipment for O2 set up. Check O2 for connection and proper placement.

Set up suction equipment and check for proper function.

Promptly answer patient call lights and respond to patient requests.

Report observed changes in patient condition to nurse or provider.

Assist with transportation of patients to other areas of the facility.

Prepare wounds for provider as directed. Clean and dress wounds appropriately.

Apply splints.

Apply immobilizers and ace bandages; fit patient for crutches.

Perform tasks such as ROM, assist with ambulatory devices as specified by the patient’s plan of care.

Assist provider with pelvic exams.

Assist in triage with vital signs.

Ambulate, and assist patients in and out of bed, into wheelchairs and transport when necessary (on oxygen if required).

Empty canisters, urine bags, bedpans and emesis basins and record intake and output.

Provide general care such as positioning, lifting or turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; preoperative supportive care; and anti‑embolism stockings and sequential compression devices.

Collect urine, stool and sputum specimen as ordered.

Perform phlebotomy, including correct labeling using two patient identifiers, maintenance of lab‑draw supplies, rotating and restocking.

Perform INT removal per nursing or LIP direction.

Perform suture/staple removal at nurse or LIP direction.

Perform EKG.

Employ all established infection control policies including standard precautions, transmission‑based isolation precautions, OSHA standards, safety measures, and proper body mechanics in performance of job.

Demonstrate knowledge and competency in providing for age‑specific needs of the population served.

Help maintain clean and orderly patient and work environment.

Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards. Complete required education assignments annually. Work toward achieving goals and objectives, and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience: One (1) year’s experience as an EMT, HUC, LPN, MA, or PCA/CNA and must meet licensure requirement below.

Licensure Requirement CPR required. If less than one (1) year’s experience, must have current EMT registry or license, LPN, MA, or CNA certification at time of hire/promotion or be a student in an accredited nursing education program. Student must have successfully completed fundamental clinical skills portion of the program (1st semester of clinicals).
